Puffy Eye Bags and Under Eye Wrinkles Can be Treated with Separate Procedures
A woman had a backpack and wrinkles under her eyes. She wants to know the options available to fix the eye problem.
Dr. Amiya Prasad is an oculofacial plastic surgeon who has practiced in Manhattan and Long Island for over 20 years. Her background lessons are first in eye surgery and specialized training in cosmetic and reconstructive cosmetic surgery, as well as facial and bone surgery around the eyes.
Dr. Prasad explained that this woman dealt with two major issues: swelling and wrinkles. Swelling under the eyes is caused by a fat pocket. This fat pocket has nothing to do with body fat but genetics and anatomy around the eyes. They are obese and prolapse that results in obesity. Unfortunately, this fat is undeniable. People often try all kinds of over-the-counter creams and ingredients that often fail to do anything. As a rule of thumb, over-the-counter treatments have a limit on how far they can go, no matter how many manufacturers promote and advertise. They cannot go too far into the skin to reduce the amount of pockets of fat.
In the practice of Dr. Prasad, he highlighted these fat pockets in a procedure called lower eyelid blepharoplasty, which meant he was approaching their surgery. Most patients fear surgery because they think of hospitals and deep anesthesia, but in Dr Prasad's practice, he has his own facilities certified by the Joint Commission. This is the same organization that certifies hospitals to ensure that office-based cosmetic surgery is performed at a very high level in conjunction with ambulatory surgery centers or hospitals in terms of safety protocols, sterilization methods, and so on. In addition, she underwent this procedure under local anesthesia with LITE ™ IV treatment. The patient was given a liquid valium equivalent that relieved them and allowed them to perform the procedure. The patient recovers quickly and usually returns to work within a week.
The method of surgery also depends on whether or not the presence or absence of excess skin.
There are two approaches to the lower eyelid: the transcutaneous or external approach and the transconjunctival or the inner. In order to determine the best approach for the patient, a physical examination is required to determine whether the skin is excessive. In the practice of Dr. Practically, his most popular procedure is transconjunctival blepharoplasty in which he avoids external incision, which is commonly used in those with no additional skin.
Some patients feel that they have extra skin due to the appearance of wrinkles. Wrinkles under the eyes are due to changes in the quality of the skin rather than to the quantity of skin. Changes in skin quality are loss of collagen, blood supply and skin elasticity.
To get closer to the lower eyelid skin, Dr. Prasad uses a regenerative drug technology called platelet-rich plasma (PRP) that is the growth and healing factor needed for wound healing. It is extracted from the blood of the patient performed as a routine blood routine. Through plasma rich in platelets, it stimulates new collagen, blood supply and improves skin quality and color.
In lighter skin individuals, Dr. Prasad also uses a technology known as fractional CO2 lasers. This is a great way to direct heat energy to the skin which causes skin shrinkage, fine lines and wrinkles. It also builds collagen and improves appearance.
Dr. Prasad also adds that when people look at themselves and focus below their eyes, they also sometimes feel that they have hooding on their eyelids. She politely mentioned that this was also present in this woman and that it was probably something she wanted to address during her consultation.
Dr. Prasad recommended that he meet with an experienced cosmetic surgeon and learn about their style by looking before and after pictures. He or she must also study the type of sedative or anesthesia and determine if he or she is comfortable with the doctor. It is very important that he can convey his concerns and set expectations of what he wants to see when the procedure is completed.
