5 Things You Should Know About Reloxin - the First Botox Alternative

BOTOX® Cosmetic has been the top non-surgical aesthetic procedure since 2002, when it first hit the market as an FDA-approved wrinkle treatment. For nearly a decade, Botox has had no competition from the removal of other toxic toxin-containing wrinkles. Although Botox is often included in skin filler groups, along with Restylane and Juvederm, Botox is technically not a filler because its solution does not "fill" wrinkles. Instead, Botox removes wrinkles by temporarily disabling facial muscles. Now the latest threat comes to Botox's dominance of the wrinkle treatment industry: Reloxin®.
Reloxin will be the first cosmetic botulinum toxin to be distributed in the U.S. since Botox. Currently in the process of receiving FDA approval, Reloxin is expected to reach cosmetics clinics nationwide by the end of 2009. Therefore, the question that many Botox and distributors think is: How does Reloxin compare? What is the difference between the two treatments? To help answer these questions, here are some basic things to know about Reloxin.
1] Reloxin is internationally known as Dysport
While Reloxin recently received FDA approval for distribution in the U.S. and Canada, wrinkle treatment has been distributed in 21 other countries under its international brand name, Dysport, since 2007.
2] Reloxins use the same toxin to treat wrinkles as Botox
Since the injection of Reloxin uses type A botulinum toxin, an active ingredient in Botox injections, they have been designed and reported to successfully treat the same facial wrinkles, sweat lines, crow's feet and Botox forehead creations.
3] Reloxin formulation is said to produce "spread"
Because Reloxin is said to have lower protein concentration in its solution than Botox, the formula is said to be easier to disseminate during treatment. These effects can produce positive or negative treatment results depending on the area being treated, and may require more precision on the part of the cosmetics provider.
4] The results of Reloxin are durable
Due to the inadequate solution of Reloxin, Botox competitors are supposed to drive less antibody production with treatment. Decreasing the amount of antibodies will allow botulinum toxin Reloxin to remain strong and effective for longer periods of time.
5] Reloxin will cost less than Botox
For most treatments, Reloxin injections are reported to be lower than Botox injections; even at $ 200, depending on the average cost of your treatment.
In conclusion
To the extent that Reloxin will measure up to Botox in the long run, we just have to wait and see. Once Reloxin starts mass distribution, we will be able to learn more about who will be joining the Reloxin vs Botox series. So far, it looks like both injections of wrinkles are well-equipped to turn our collapse line.
