Skin Care For a Healthy, Youthful You

Skin care is important. We are bombarded with warnings about skin cancer and with products to help us look younger and wrinkle free. But what do you really know about how your skin layer works and what needs to be looked at and works best?
Understanding the structure and nutrient needs of your body's biggest organs will help you to see and feel the best while avoiding various diseases that can damage our skin.
How Our Skin Works
Our skin is made up of three layers:
Epidermis

This outer layer is our protective barrier. Consisting of cells called keratinocytes, they start their life in the deepest part of the epidermis and slowly migrate upward to the surface. In the process they build large amounts of keratin to protect us from the external environment. Once on the surface they die and peel off as usual.
Dermis

The next layer, the dermis contains three main types of connective tissue. Collagen provides strength; protein gives the skin a normal structure or strength; elastin provides elasticity.
Subcutaneous tissue

Beneath the dermis, the region is made up of fat cells that give us insulation from outside elements and also make our skin look full and full.
Why Wrinkled Skin
Epidermal changes

Each decade we have 10% less epidermal cells and they mimic slower. Over time, these cells become thinner and less compatible with one another. This has three effects.
First, the thinner epidermis gives the skin a fragile appearance that is seen by very old people. Next, with fewer cells, the skin's ability to repair itself decreases. Finally, lack of cohesion between cells means less moisture retention and external protection.
Donation Changes
Like the epidermis, the dermis becomes thinner. Lack of collagen production causes a decline in skin strength. And elastin fibers are gradually used, resulting in less elasticity. The result is wrinkles that eventually break the skin.
In addition, both sweat glands and sebaceous glands produce less oil, contributing to dry skin.
Subtype change

With age, the fat cells in this layer also become thinner. This contributes to wrinkles and sagging, as this layer becomes less saturated.
It is not an effective skin care strategy to simply gain weight, as this thin layer of subcutaneous fat is not where we add fat.
Sun

Sun UVA and UVB ultraviolet radiation are the major contributors to premature skin aging. The degree of exposure and protection of your natural pigments will determine how much damage is done.
What You Can Do
Eat right

Proper skin care begins with good nutrition. According to Mayo Clinic expert Lawrence E. Gibson, M.D., antioxidant-rich foods promote healthy skin, while fatty foods such as meat and low-fat dairy products can increase the risk of wrinkles.
Don't smoke

According to experts at the world-famous Mayo Clinic, smoking both accelerates skin aging and increases wrinkles. And it doesn't take long, as these changes can appear in young adults after just 10 years of smoking.
First, smoking lowers the small capillaries of your skin, reducing the supply of oxygen and essential nutrients such as vitamin A. This in turn damages collagen and elastin, giving your skin strength and elasticity. Finally, a smoker's repeated facial expressions such as keeping his / her lips inhaling will increase wrinkles over time.
Practice Sun Care

According to Skin Care Specialist, Scott Gerrish, MD, using a high SPF sunscreen is the most important thing you can do to prevent premature skin aging. Both clothing and sunscreen are recommended when you plan to be in direct sunlight, especially between 10am and 2pm.

Retinol Creams
