Crinolines - How to Fold, Fluff and Store Net Petticoat Crinolines

What are crinoline and how do you take care of them? Krinolin, also known as a clean slip or scarf, is a women's clothing intended to flatten skirts, and give more bells. They can be made from clean fabrics or ruffles and are closely related to the popular 1950's full circle skirt style. Whether it's new or vintage this crinolin needs special help to keep them looking vibrant and bright.
Here are some ideas for how to decompose and shape your crinoline clean, and how to remove wrinkles. Wrinkles can sometimes come out on your own if you hang on to crinoline for a day or two. This is the first thing you need to do with crinoline. It is very useful for loosening and separating the clean and gently pulling layers into the shape. Give some shake, too. Note: It's okay to hang it for a day or two just to make it, but crinolin should be kept in the bag, or else they will lose their puff from being pulled by their own weight. You can also reduce stubborn wrinkles with steaming settings on your wrists. Do this by first placing your crinoline on the ironing board so that only one layer of the net is exposed. Put an abrasive cloth over the crinoline. Set your iron to a "fine" setting, and press the crinoline over the pressing cloth, so that the net does not burn. Any remaining wrinkles can be eaten by hanging the crinoline, and slowly exploding with steam from the steaming function of your iron. Remember - the steam is so hot! Do not touch the iron to the crinoline, or you will burn the net. If you are lucky enough to have a real steamer, then hang the crinoline, and stir the crinoline from the inside, facing outwards. The net will flow straight out. Don't have access to iron or steamer? Hang crinoline in your bathroom. Turn on the hot water in the bathroom all the way. Close the door to the bathroom and let it steam. Go away every few minutes and pull the net out. Or, place it in a dryer on the wool cycle and run for a few minutes, then slowly and separately layer, forming a crinoline as you go.
Hanging crinolin in the closet is useful but it is only good for temporary storage. Keep your crinoline in plastic, or travel / duffel bags. The actual "crinoline bags" can also be purchased from square dancing clothes and supply stores. You can roll your crinoline without making a new wrinkle like this: Stand holding the crinoline in front of you with your waist at the height of your chin and crinoline suspended. Tuck the waistband under your chin and use your arms to gently fold the crinoline from the center to the end until you end up with a long vertical tube. Gently press the air as you do this. Now start to roll from bottom to bottom, again slowly pressing into the air. Once you've rolled it to the top, you'll have a waist section to create a neat, clean wrap. The next time you need it, you'll have a belt to hold when you open the crane. Don't let your pet find a way to your precious crinoline and make it a personal throne! Pets love to nest in crinoline, and not only get their hair hard, but they will flatten your crinoline too.
Tired of color? Crystalline can be dyed. Here's how to brighten or change the color of crinoline. Make sure you use a dye that works for nylon fabric. Crinoline requires two packages. Most people use the color "Rit". Rit dye and clothing coloring are generally available at your local craft store, or at various chain stores. Fill the washing machine with hot water and mix in dye according to the package instructions. Just be sure to make the washer through the extra cycle after you finish crinoline off. This will ensure that no extra dye is left in your washing machine! The yellow-colored krinol can be purified. Soak a cup of dishwashing powder in hot water enough to cover the crinoline. Soak for 30 minutes, rinse, and warm. To easily "refresh" your crinolin, simply pop in the dryer on the hair cycle a few minutes before applying.
Krinolin gives a bounce to your fur skirt. They are so much fun when you dance and they add a lot of color and sass. A good one will survive with proper care and storage to give you a year's fashion.
Great Facts: Did you know that in the 1950s they used their clinic to keep up the pressure by washing them in a bath of sugar water? It's called "Sugar Starching." Here's how they used to do it. Mix a few cups of sugar in a large bucket of warm water. Once the sugar has dissolved, add the crinoline and leave for a few minutes. Take the crinoline out, let it drip and then find a place to raise the crinoline so it can dry in the right shape. Some women will roll wet crinoline on the large bush in the yard so they will be full and fluffy.
