How to Decoupage With Mod Podge (without bubbles and wrinkles!!)
I finally learned how to make paper decoupage using Podge Mode WITHOUT fluffy paper and wrinkles. This is the process I used to get the perfect finish.

ReplyDeleteNot to seem weird or creepy, but you have a very pleasant hands, & your fingers tracing the paper as you decopague is quite hypnotic asmr stuff. You could seriously start a decopague asmr channel, just softly, slowly tracing paper around the edges, speaking instructions with a voice just above a whisper. And you would get thousands upon thousands of views. Not kidding. I'll just see myself out.

ReplyDeleteI find that mod podge is an inferior glue, but for paper not at all a bad sealer. I use Yes! Paste as the glue and it never wrinkles or harms paper. It has to dry completely, then mod podge on the surface.

ReplyDeleteBack in the 60s we would use a rolling pin or glass to roll out the air bubbles. Products and techniques have improved.

ReplyDeleteJust to add a bit of info... The reason Mod Podge tends to wrinkle paper is because Mod Podge is a water based glue. So, depending on your project you may want to try Fabri-Tac. Yes it smells and it's expensive too. I usually use my 40% coupon and go to Hobby Lobby to get it. That being said, I still use A LOT of Mod Podge. (I make books) I usually don't have much trouble with it wrinkling but that's because just by accident I usually allow the application of paper to dry before adding the top coat so I guess that's why I've had pretty good luck most of the time. Thanks for the video. I will also try the idea from Jamie. Sounds like another good tip. :)

ReplyDeleteYou should let the first layer dry completely first. It’s like watercolor,you have to let the layer dry for a better end product. Great advice.

ReplyDeleteYou may want to start decoupaging with GLUE SKICK instead of ModPodge (or liquid glue) because gluestick has VERY LITTLE WATER in it and WATER is what wrinkles paper.(I know this from working with watercolor paint on paper and from working with gluestick instead of liquid glue and glitter on paper.The less liquid in the glue the less wrinkling).
ReplyDeleteLightly dampen the backside of the paper before you apply it to your glued surface. Works like magic!

ReplyDeleteI have never tried using this stuff before. I am going to be doing the top of my son's nightstand with stickers. Should I stick the stickers on naturally with their stickiness and then go on top with the mod podge?

ReplyDeleteThanks! I'm about to decoupage a "shot ski". It's a snow ski with 4 holes drilled in to place shot glasses. After the holes were drilled, my husband painted it. Now it's my turn to decorate it with fun stickers using Mod Podge. Will be a hit at the parties! Visit my fitness channel when you get a chance. I need more subscribers.
ReplyDeletePurdy brand brush is number one for sure :) I love using the brush and roller on walls instead of spray painting. The 1" Purdy brush was perfect for edging. I have to pick up some Purdy brushes for decoupaging. It's important to use a good brush where the bristles will not fall out while using the Mod Podge or any other chemical. Thanks for sharing.
