I went to the airport on another trip. I started early, arrived at the airport on time, but when I arrived the plane was canceled and I had to apply for another flight. The next flight to my destination was about two hours away. This, in fact, made me miss my connecting flight.
I think I should be thankful that I was able to catch the flight later. It gave me some time to sit in the airport with nothing to do but think. Talk about a boring evening!
One of the things I thought about was never fly again. But, the need is a hardship, or something like that.
When I think of the airport, I think of a wise old man who, cursing his philosophy, once said, "No wait time." I know he's smart for not including women in his observations. Although time will not wait for men, it has a different approach to women.
Usually speaking, a man welcomes the passing of time. He proudly displays wrinkles and calluses as a sign of manhood. Until recently, gray hair was the crown of power. Even Solomon, the wisest man, said, "The gray head is a crown of glory, if it be found in the way of righteousness" (Proverbs 16:31 KJV).
The grayer the head, the wiser the man is. Although, I must admit that I've seen my share of challenging intellectual men.
A woman, however, has a totally different philosophy when it comes to time. As a man with gray hair, I do not fully understand their philosophy.
I think some guys want to be 25 again. Most men, however, are happy to be old. Women are different. They live on the concept of ageless beauty. Who am I, as a man, to oppose that philosophy?
I found out many years ago. A woman teased me for how long I thought she was. I have long since found that this is not a normal question and he is not looking for the right information. I, at the time, took it as a challenge and tried to guess his age.
Wrong!
I've learned that the right response to this question is, "Why, you haven't seen a day in over 25 years." I don't know what that means, but I often smile from this response. No matter how old she is, she thinks she's still 25.
The man had a different idea.
"I'm 60," he would boast to anyone who would listen, "and I can still do my daily work." Then he'll come out and throw it out to prove it.
Time has a different effect on a man as it does for women.
There's nothing wrong with trying to look younger. I think it's a much easier task to do if you're a woman than if you're a man.
Every morning before I leave home, I try to make myself feel as scary to the public as I can. I would scrape my face, pat my hair, and organize myself with aftershave and within 10 minutes, I was done and ready for the world.
I noticed that Parsonage Young Lover took longer than 10 minutes to prepare for the world. I must admit he did a very good job, but I also have to admit it took a long time and it seems like every year it gets longer.
I don't want to pay attention to myself. I just want to go through the day and go home again. I know I'm not as young as I used to be but I take comfort in the fact that I'm older than ever. And in line with Good Fathers, I have had a wonderful time.
For me personally, I like to celebrate every birthday as a celebration of a lifetime. My goal in life is to get as much as I can and with the good help of Father, I am doing well. Time has not stopped for me, for which I am very grateful.
Just like getting to the airport in time for my flight, I want to be timely for everything that happens in my life. I don't want to miss anything. Many times people look back, stumble today, find themselves tomorrow and don't know how they got there. I want to enjoy the time I have in real time.
There is no time like this to enjoy. Fond memories. The aspiration is very interesting. But, nothing can take place right now.
The Bible talks a lot about time. We are in the timeline set by God and will not delay until we get to the end. The Apostle Paul understood this when he wrote, "And that, knowing the time, that now is the time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed" (Romans 13:11 KJV).
There was never a time like this and as someone said, "This is the first day of my life." I'm going to celebrate my "Now" with all the energy I have.
