Botox is injected into the muscle causing the muscles to relax, improving the appearance of the line. Botox works by binding to receptors that send nerve signals to muscles for contracture. As your body builds new receptors and neurotransmitters all the time, it needs to be maintained otherwise, wrinkles will slowly return as the muscles function again and again. Botox takes two to four weeks to start working and lasts up to six months.
