How Do Anti-Wrinkle Creams Work?

This week Reactions saw the chemistry behind the anti-aging cream. We're heading to science to see if the claim to make your skin smooth is true!

The skin can remain strong and durable because of the protein fiber called collagen and elastin in the tissue beneath the surface. But environmental factors such as ultraviolet radiation or sunlight can produce free radicals that damage the skin's ability to provide more support. Anti-wrinkle products claim to keep the skin fresh and rejuvenate these cells, but are their chemicals legit?

  1. Reactions' comment on microneedling would be awesome. Looks like everybody's getting it done, or doing it by themselves.

  5. She is annoying, she overacts it too much. This is a science channel. Not an E! episode

  6. Awesome video, subscribing! It would be great if you guys had a video on all the vitamins, I saw Ms.Beautyphile had one on vitamin D that was quite informative. It seems like a topic that keeps coming up.

Thankfully, atleast science, can't be called fake news ;)

  11. Great video! I learned a lot -- and will definitely think twice before spending $$ on creams with dubious scientific evidence that they actually work.

  12. At 0:19 there is a slight flaw.
There is a LOT of living skin cells in the epidermis; the melanocytes that help protect the skin from UV-radiation is found in the basal layer (stratum basale) of the epidermis, and you have tons of immune cells in the spinous layer (stratum spinosum), just above the basal layer.
Only the outermost layer, the cornified layer (stratum corneum), is composed of dead cells :)
