You can often hear women talk about "good looks", referring to the help that comes with menopause, from the use of women's towels or towels when it comes to monthly visits. And yes, it's good to know that you don't have to worry about forgetting your pad while attending public functions or entertaining guests at home, going to work or just walking around at night. Indeed, it can be scary to get caught without realizing it. Sadly though it is the fact that at one end it brings good news, menopause brings with it many other symptom complications. These symptoms include hot flashes, mood swings, sweating, and loss of sleep, irritation, vaginal dryness and vaginal pain.
The medical term for vaginal dryness is "atopic vaginitis", which basically refers to the lack of proper moisture in the vaginal region. Vaginal pain is particularly experienced because with menopause a woman loses natural lubrication, as the body usually lubricates the vaginal wall with little moisture. This secretion of moisture, call it fluid, is a direct product of sexual arousal, and an increase in blood flow to the blood vessels. Just as these unwanted changes can draw the attention of women and cosmetics firms to wrinkles and skin in general, the unknown story is that genital tissue is equally affected and needs the attention it needs.
There is nothing unusual about having vaginal discomfort during menopause. What happens is that women's hormone levels decrease with menopause. Due to the decrease in estrogen production, the vaginal wall is shrinking and they are not only thin but also lose elasticity. The vagina loses its lubrication, and with extreme dryness comes great vaginal discomfort, resulting in bleeding and tissue destruction around the vagina. Unless proper treatment is sought and administered, the last thing menopausal women want to hear at the moment is a call for sexual relations, so it can be very painful. The intensity of vaginal dryness may vary from one woman to another and no matter how annoying or severe they may be, life is unavoidable.
You may want to take care knowing that you cannot be alone with vaginal discomfort. More than 50% of menopausal women face this problem at different menopausal levels. It is estimated that more than 2 million women transit to menopause each year, putting that figure at over 5,000 women daily. Decreased estrogen production in the post-menopausal period, unless replaced by therapy and other menopausal treatments, not only results in painful sexual experiences, but also causes vaginal burns. In other cases, it is common for women here to see some form of relief and experience general irritation to the vagina. Other common symptoms of vaginal dryness in women may include mild bleeding during sexual intercourse, some burning sensation, itching around the vagina, increased discomfort while wearing trousers, and urinary frequency.
Itching in menopause may take two directions - possibly internal or external, with external itching caused by drying of the vulva tissue, which results in the loss of the same moisture and protection. The aforementioned bleeding, after a brief period of sexual intimacy, marks a ruptured tissue in the vagina, and your partner must be careful to avoid strong penetration that may no longer need to destroy smooth vaginal tissue. This is a problem of increased hardness and friction with reduced lubrication.
Although there are vaginal dryness, emotional and other environmental causes due to vaginal dryness, women who have undergone HRT (hormone replacement therapy) in the past, even for reasons other than menopause, may experience severe symptoms of vaginal dryness. Chronic stress levels, whether due to complications of other menopausal symptoms or failure to include transitions, can also play an important role in increasing the degree of vaginal discomfort. No woman should have the quality of her life greatly affected by menopausal changes, including vaginal dryness and discomfort.
There are many precautions and precautions to consider, and still enjoy life like never before, especially since the better part of your menopause is sexually active, as well as your partner's.
You need not be afraid to discuss these symptoms or changes with your spouse or doctor, no matter how 'personal' you think. Remember, it's a natural transition. If your doctor does not take the initiative to be proactive in bringing this up, take it to spark a discussion - after all, pain or gain is yours, and so is your choice. It's normal.
