A neat, natural foundation seeks out a routine for mature skin with great texture, wrinkles and pores.
Today I share my current basic routine, including concealer, highlight, blush and contour. As a 45-year-old woman with big pores, dark under eye circles and fine lines, I want my makeup to be close and durable, yet still look natural. I don't think I could get away with that much concealer under my eyes. It just sinks into the fine lines and emphasises the dry skin I get there. I'm really needing a different approach now at 45. My dark rings under my eyes are awful and need covering up.
ReplyDeleteYour skin looks amazing.
Beautiful! I have a question about sunscreen though. Does sunscreen lose it’s effectiveness when you use it before primer. I get confused which order to do things. I must use a primer because of large pores but I normally wear a tinted sunscreen so I do that after my primer. What are your thoughts?
ReplyDeleteI love your videos and advise. I'm in 57 years old, oily skin, large pores. I'm having a hard time finding a foundation that feels light on the skin with medium coverage. I believe heavier foundation crease on my fine lines. Is there a drugstore foundation you would recommend??? thank you so much!!!!
ReplyDeleteI love this look on you. The highlighter was gorgeous on camera! <3
ReplyDeletevery pretty. loved it! i think I'll go shopping tomorrow ;)
ReplyDeleteLove watching you l am an older woman
ReplyDeleteWhat blingy mirror is that ur using to do it makeup? ❤
ReplyDeleteThank you. Great video
ReplyDeleteMaybe this was mentioned already, I just saw how old this video is.... but when you apply that Farsali serum to your face, it becomes very red, very quickly. That gives me some pause about trying it for myself. I already have issues with redness due to rosacea.
ReplyDeleteLove you Risa! You are my beauty guru, and have been for some time. I watch your videos repeatedly to pick up the tips and tricks, and your recommendations for low/high end products. I just turned 60, and love your looks for hooded eyes. I have those, as well as bags under my eyes now, and puffy upper lids so you have really given me some options for different looks. I don't wear much makeup day-to-day anymore, but you are slowly getting me into it again! I can hardly believe you're 45! You look 10 years younger! Keep doing what you're doing. We all love it!!!!
ReplyDeleteLove your videos, but I have sensitive normal to dry skin..Do you do tutorials for more mature skin .I myself age 62 ..Thanks for sharing
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteSuch a helpful and easy to follow video!
ReplyDeleteI noticed the sunscreen you use is Rodan and Fields. I love my Rodan and Fields regimen and AMP MD System. I am loving the results. Since I do live in the land of no humidity... the dry Arizona desert, I do add some Drunk Elephant Marula oil now and again. Your skin looks amazing.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite everyday light and airy, my skin but better, foundation is the Armani Face Fabric. It blurs my lines and horrible pores even if I don’t have time for my face primers (Bobbi Brown Vitamin Enriched Face Base all over and Winky Lux Face Primer for problem areas). I dare not skip them if I use my Dior Backstage or Airflash on more coverage days.
ReplyDeleteYou look absolutely, flawless. What a goldmine of information, and technique. Thanks,Risa.
ReplyDeleteI live your videos thank you for sharing
ReplyDeleteRisa I want you to know that every single product that u love & recommend I ALWAYS Eyes closed order it right away (takes a lot as I’m in the Middle East & more than half the brands don’t retail here) but I make sure I somehow purchase them & I’m NEVER disappointed! Ever! I love you babe you are amazeballs❤️
ReplyDeleteLove from Dubai
I love how natural it all looks!
ReplyDeleteYour makeup looks amazing Risa. xoxo
ReplyDeleteIm so glad I found your channel! Im only 30, but I've noticed my skin doesn't look as "young" as it used to. Therefore, I've noticed my makeup I've always liked and worn looks terrible now....i was searching YouTube for ways to avoid Cakey-looking foundation, and thank goodness I stumbled across your videos. You have made me feel so much better about my skin, and the aging process altogether. I just wanted to thank you so much, from the bottom of my heart for doing what you do. You are amazing!
ReplyDeleteI have several beauty marks and I’ve never used foundation. Any thoughts on best kind of foundation?
ReplyDeleteRisa, my name is Risa as well and I am blonde, blue-eyed over 40 as well! I have always done very minimal makeup but found your channel and LOVE the flawless, airbrushed look! I do want to know why you don’t put foundation all over before you do eyes? I have never done much eyes but would like to learn how. It seems weird not to use foundation first before eye makeup? Anyway, I am excited to have found you! Glad to know another Risa!
ReplyDeleteI'm only 31, but I still feel like I could use this routine! My skin sounds pretty similar to yours and I love the way yours looks!
ReplyDeleteYou should start up your own makeup line Risa......You're such an experienced expert with so much knowledge. I love your opinions and videos!
ReplyDeleteI enjoy your content. 💚💚💚
ReplyDeleteLove you videos - can you recommend a colour correcting primer drugstore or high end ? I have been using NYX but doesn’t do much to keep redness away - I tend to be getting a little hot flush later on in the day so have been using the green correcting primer as I was advised to but so far they do nothing really for the redness . Many thanks x
ReplyDeleteIsn't it wonderful to have found makeup that really works. I'm loving what I am currently using as well. But also as you said getting skin the best it can be is key to making any makeup work. You look gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteI know you said the catrice is full coverage as is the Estée Lauder. Do you think you can get this same look with El? I need something that is transfer resistant since I wear a face mask at work. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteYou are my go to for foundation recommendations! I love your content.
ReplyDeleteLOVE the new makeup! LOOKS BEAUTIFUL!! And your hair is gorgeous!!
ReplyDeleteAnd Farsali is not thick or slimy!
ReplyDeleteVery pretty and simple 💜
ReplyDeleteYou're so wright about the colourrange of foundations. But storespace is expensive for a brand so they can not always put out all colours they have because of space. It works both ways, not only for the darker shades. I always miss the lightest colour of some foundations with a neutral undertone. While I know that it is available in England, I can't swatch it in the Netherlands to check the undertone or if it is light enough. I think brands miss the market there. Even if I can't buy it, by a nice mid-end/high-end store all tones should be available to at least swatch. When I know my match, I can buy it online if it is not available in store.
ReplyDeleteI have wanted to try this foundation for so long. Every time I try to pick it up the display at Ulta is wiped out. Thanks for the oxidation tip.
ReplyDeleteOh Risa I just love the way you are doing your makeup. Please do a tutorial with that eye makeup looks stunning on you, very beautiful
ReplyDeleteI just turned 46, oily skin, enlarged pores. I've tried every primer and foundation. At this age I find Cover FX blurring primer and Laura Mercier's Tinted Moisturizer to be magic for me. I have my skin in good shape, and definitely find lighter coverage looks better and actually covers better. The Cover FX primer makes my pores disappears. My skin looks like skin, but in slightly better condition, and lasts all day, where heavy coverage shows just make-up and more flaws & texture now on me.
ReplyDeleteDid you see Trendmood's post about a new Farsali primer/serum hybrid that gives you the glass skin effect? I'm so excited to try it! 👍
ReplyDeleteI'm almost 46 and love charlotte tilbury's Hollywood flawless filter, it cosmetics cc cream followed by hourglass blush and strobing powder. My skin looks youthful and glowy with this combo!
ReplyDeleteRisa, you use my favorite foundation,I use it now for about two years,I own three different shades, because my skintone changes with the seasons,I use now shade 020,I also own030,040,the darkest shade I use in the summer.I love the way it wears and the weartime is so long, and I am still every day surprised how little I need, when you use a little to much it looks cakey,so I always use a little. You are totaly right about that it oxidizes. At my skin it oxidizes one teint,so I always use one colour lighter.I own more different foundations, but this one from catrice is realy my go to,and on the days when I want a little lighter coverage I mix a few drops with a little moisturizer. It also has a very long weartime when you use a little aloe Vera gel instead of a primer, that’s how I use it last few months,I use a little aloe Vera gel as a primer, because it’s healthy for the skin, and because the aloe Vera gel is a little tacky, the foundation stays realy good and long on the skin.i realy love aloe Vera gel for face body and hair,it has so many bennefits for a healthier skin and hair,it even works great to protect your hair from heat, and you can use it as a pre shampoo for sulky hair. And for the skin it works moisturizing, cooling, for sunburn, primer, and it realy sootens your skin, and it helps for wrinkels,I read many artikels in the summertime about the bennefits from aloeveragel, and I use it ever since,I still use my other skincare as I did before, but I started using it as a primer and I notice realy a difference in my skin, and hair.I use it as a pre shampoo and let it sit for 20 minutes,I use a littlebit as a hairgel, and I use it as a heatprotectant before I blowdry,or curl my hair, and it makes your hair absolutely not greasy or hard, but it helps to keep your hair in model.Thank you for this amazing video, you are so great and I learned so much from you❤️
ReplyDeleteLoved this video...Love that you mix high end with drug store.
ReplyDeleteLoving your makeup here, especially with the shiny lip. You look so beautiful!
ReplyDeleteVery flattering look.
ReplyDeleteThank you for using both high/low products & your explanation of why is really very reassuring that you don't have to go all out one way or the other. Genuine, sincere & well rounded people aren't afraid to say this, nor apply it to their livelihood & I think that's one of the reasons you're so relatable!
ReplyDeleteSeems like some of the other Youtubers tend to be of a different mindset & that comes off somewhat snobby, in my opinion. So glad you're not like this, not to put anyone down or anything.
Thanks for sharing & have a great day today !
Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteBrilliant video Risa👏🏻 Much prefer lighter coverage for my ageing skin🙄😂 Have a great day an the look is beautiful💖☺️ xx
ReplyDeleteThanks for doing this video. I’m 41 and I need these videos. Dry skin here though. You’re beautiful!!!
ReplyDeleteThnxs for doing makeup for the mature women too!♡♡
ReplyDeleteWhen you brush the powder under eyes how do you keep it from smearing everything. Am I applying too much concealer? My under eyes are my problem area, very dry and dark
ReplyDeleteThis was a great video!! I’m 38 w dry skin and my under eye area always looks bad. No matter what I seem to try. I may pick up the Huda powder.
